James Franklin teases fans over 'White Out energy' potential in Week 5
James Franklin knew what Penn State would be facing in Week 5 after steamrolling past Kent State. After Illinois secured a Friday night win against Nebraska, it was clear the Nittany Lions would be hosting an undefeated matchup of Top 25 teams.
Some fans undoubtedly had hopes for a Top 25 White Out, though that game is already set for a visit from Washington late in the season. But Franklin gave a bit of a tease to fans, and Penn State has since followed up with a video to kickstart the week on Monday.
“We need this place rocking next week. I’m calling for White out… energy,” teased Franklin. “White out energy next week.”

So, what does this all mean for Week 5? That’s hard to tell. Of course, there’s no doubt Beaver Stadium needs to set an elite atmosphere for the visit from Bret Bielema’s Illinois program, but it’s unlikely the Nittany Lions deliver a 2nd official “White Out” to the season.
In fact, Franklin’s words and the video make it clear this will not be an official White Out. But that cannot stop fans from setting the scene themselves and delivering an environment worthy of being labeled a White Out.
Looks like we’ll have to wait and see how fans respond, but you can bet it will be rocking on Saturday.
