James Franklin may be getting a piece of his TE room back soon. Theo Johnson was unable to play in the season opener with an undisclosed injury.

Onward Sports posted what Franklin said on Twitter. Franklin stated that he was hoping to have him healthy for the Purdue game, and would like to get him back in the lineup sooner rather later.

“We were hoping that we may have him available in the Purdue game,” said Franklin. “Hopefully we’re able to get him back sooner rather than later, and hopefully that’s this week.”

Johnson appeared in 13 games for Penn State last season, and made 6 starts at TE. He was a reliable option at TE, having 213 yards receiving with 1 touchdown.

If Johnson isn’t healthy for the Ohio game, the team could go with Brenton Strange again. Strange had a great catch against Purdue where he broke multiple tackles for a 67-yard touchdown catch.
