Penn State is facing an unenviable task heading into 2019.

James Franklin and the Nittany Lions are looking for a new starting quarterback for the first time in a while. Trace McSorley is gone and is now vying for a roster spot in the NFL, taking a number of school records with him upon his departure.

As the team looks for his replacement, it appears to remain a two-man battle at this point in fall camp. Franklin addressed the issue Wednesday and indicated that the Nittany Lions are still finishing up installs. To this point, Franklin’s staff hasn’t had a discussion on making a decision about a starter.

The players most likely to get the nod are Sean Clifford and Will Levis. Clifford has the most experience of the two after appearing in limited action in 2018. However, Clifford has just seven attempted passes in his young career. Levis is a redshirt freshman and was a three-star prospect from the 2018 recruiting class.
