It’s been that kind of day for much of the afternoon in Happy Valley. Actually, it’s been that kind of season for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State started the year brilliantly with 5 straight wins, including edging out Wisconsin and Auburn early on. Unfortunately, losses to Iowa, Illinois, and Ohio State derailed things.

Now, James Franklin’s squad is trying to derail Michigan’s B1G East hopes in Week 11. But a number of missed opportunities have left Penn State in a hole in the third quarter. Among Penn State’s miscues are a horrifically botched fake field and another missed field goal during the third quarter.

Penn State was forced to try the field goal after a short crossing route came up well short of gaining a first on a third-down play. Instead of making it 14-9, the Nittany Lions were left with an 8-point deficit.

James Franklin’s reaction said it all. Even for those who struggle to read lips, it is not hard to decipher what was said here.
