Jaxon Smolik is a 3-star quarterback prospect in the class of 2023. Originally committed to Tulane, Smolik is reopening his recruitment as the Nittany Lions appear to be making a push for his commitment.

“I have deep respect for Coach Fritz and Coach Svoboda as well as the Tulane football program and sincerely appreciate them believing in me first and seeing what I am capable of during my recruitment process,” wrote Smolik. “After further conversations with my family and looking at all the options, I have decided to decommit from Tulane.”

According to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, the 6-foot-2 Smolik rates as a 3-star recruit. Smolik plays for Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa and is also rated the No. 38 QB in the country for the class of 2023.

Smolik originally committed to Tulane on June 23. Since then, he has generated offers from California and Penn State. The offer from the Nittany Lions came on July 31 after attending a camp with the program on July 29.

We’ll see how Smolik’s recruitment shapes up moving forward.
