A third Penn State player has been taken in the draft.

Defensive back John Reid became the third Nittany Lion to hear his name called during the 2020 NFL Draft, going late in the fourth round to the Houston Texans. He was selected with pick No. 141.

Reid was preceded by defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (No. 38 Carolina Panthers) and wide receiver KJ Hamler (No. 46 Denver Broncos). Reid’s consistency in the secondary for the Nittany Lions in 2019 helped get him on a lot of draft boards this year.

Last year, Reid excelled as a fifth-year senior at Penn State. He led the team eight pass break-ups and totaled 37 tackles in his final year in Happy Valley. He also had 2.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions as the Nittany Lions ended the year with an 11-2 record in 2019.

Reid was a solid player for Penn State during his career but didn’t pop up on many draft radars until this past season. A strong showing on the field and a surprising performance at the NFL Scouting Combine helped elevate his draft stock and landed him in the fourth round.
