Some news that came out during Penn State head coach James Franklin’s Wednesday evening press conference shook the college football world.

Franklin announced that star running back Journey Brown will no longer be able to play football and his college football career is over due to a medical condition.

Though Franklin broke the news first, Brown soon followed with a social media post of his own:

Brown’s medical diagnosis is hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. It’s a rare heart condition. This was found when he was tested for COVID-19 in early September.

Prior to the diagnosis of the condition, Brown had been thought of as a high-level running back that had a chance to make it in the NFL.

As a sophomore in 2019, Brown improved significantly from his numbers in 2018. He ran for 890 yards and 12 touchdowns on 129 carries. He also caught 15 passes for 134 yards.

It’s a heartbreaking moment for sure as this young football player had his career cut short by no fault of his own. But Brown seems to be handling it as well as one could be based on his post.
