Kaytron Allen punctuates Penn State's huge first half with TD vs. SMU
Kaytron Allen and the Penn State offense are starting to wake up against SMU! That’s great news after the Nittany Lion defense has absolutely put the Mustangs in a choke hold of the first-round College Football Playoff matchup.
On Saturday, the two sides are meeting in Happy Valley, and it has been an afternoon to remember for the Penn State defense. The Nittany Lions have already picked off Kevin Jennings 3 times, including a pair of pick-6s.
Dom DeLuca has a pair of interceptions himself, including the game-opening score via a pick-6. Now, Allen is providing a jolt to the offense.
Already holding a 14-0 lead, the Nittany Lions used their 3rd pick of the first half to mount a 75-yard drive down the field. On a short 3rd-and-2 play, it was Allen breaking into the open with a big hole carved out by the offensive line.
Once he got through SMU’s defensive front, no one was able to bring Allen down as he rolled 25 yards for the offense’s first score of the game:

While Penn State is in complete control with halftime approaching, the offense was far from lights out to start the game. The first 4 drives all came up empty with a pair of punts and 2 turnovers-on-downs.
We’ll see how the Nittany Lions add on moving forward, but it’s an impressive start for the team so far. A win would put Penn State into a quarterfinal matchup with Boise State.
