SEC journeyman and Kentucky QB Joey Gatewood is entering the transfer portal, per a report from Rivals.

The news comes just one day after Gatewood was beaten out for the starting job at Kentucky by former Penn State quarterback Will Levis.

Levis transferred from Penn State after last season. He played sparingly for the Nittany Lions, but did fill in on a couple of occasions as starter Sean Clifford was struggling.

Levis completed 33-of-55 passes for 421 yards and 1 touchdown last season. He also rushed for 260 yards and 3 touchdowns on 82 carries.

Gatewood initially enrolled at Auburn but transferred to Kentucky after the 2019 season. He played in six games last year for the Wildcats, but was mostly used as a runner.

Kentucky opens its 2021 season against Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 4.
