Penn State’s running back has taken a major hit this offseason. One of the top contributors has decided to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal.

Junior back Noah Cain has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple reports. He was the second-leading rusher for the Nittany Lions during the 2021 season, behind Keyvone Lee.

Cain closed out his third season in Happy Valley with 350 yards and 4 touchdowns on 106 carries. He also caught 19 passes for 114 yards as the Nittany Lions concluded the year with a 7-6 record and an Outback Bowl appearance.

A former 4-star recruit, Cain set a Penn State freshman record for rushing touchdowns in a single season. In 2019, he scored 8 touchdowns while rushing for 443 yards on 84 attempts.

Due to injury, Cain saw action in just 1 game for the Nittany Lions in 2020. He had 3 carries for 13 yards.

Because of the 2020 season, Cain will still have 2 years of eligibility to use at his next destination. The former 4-star back was expected to be a key component of Penn State’s rushing attack again next season, but that won’t be the case.

Penn State struggled to run the football in 2021, a major reason why the Nittany Lions weren’t in the B1G East race at the end of the season. They finished the year 13th in the B1G in rushing offense, averaging 108 yards per game.

No Penn State running back hit the 100-yard mark in a game last fall.

Cain leaves Penn State with 806 rushing yards, 12 touchdowns and 166 receiving yards in 3 seasons of work.
