Kirk Herbstreit is not a guy that’s going to fall in love with a quarterback. No, the ESPN college football analyst firmly believes that if you have the No. 1 selection in the draft, you take the best player.

Will the Cleveland Browns follow that logic, considering the issues the franchise has had under center? The way Herbstreit sees it, the Browns could likely come away with the top prospect and the top quarterback in one fell swoop.

During his latest Herbstreit & Fitzsimmons podcast, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter asked Herbstreit who he would take at No. 1 if he were picking for the Browns.

“I would take the best player No. 1, (Barkley) is as good of a running back prospect as I’ve seen in the last 15-20 years of doing this,” Herbstreit said on the podcast. “I would take Saquon Barkley at one, I would assume other teams, the next couple of picks, are going to take the Josh Allens, the Josh Rosens and whoever else is going to be selected. I would assume Baker is still going to be there at No. 4.

“I would make sure I get Saquon Barkley at one and I would pick Baker Mayfield at four. That’s what I would do and that would change that offense drastically.”

If Cleveland does indeed take the best prospect on the board, there’s a great change that the former Penn State runner goes No. 1 in the upcoming draft.
