KJ Hamler saw his 2021 season cut short before it even really got rolling. Now, he’s ahead of schedule in his injury recovery and hoping to be ready for the 2022 campaign.

In 2021, Hamler appeared in the first 3 games of the season with 2 starts for the Denver Broncos. During the third game of the season, Hamler went down with a torn ACL in an awkward fashion.

The true extent of Hamler’s injury was even worse than that. In comments to Mike Klis with 9News, Hamler revealed his hip also popped out of the socket during the injury. That required Hamler to have injury on his ACL and a hip repair.

“This wasn’t just an ACL,” Hamler explained. “I had a hip repair, too. So it was a double-whammy. That was probably the hardest part. You had to be careful because of the hip and then the knee and it was all on the same side.”

As for his recovery, Hamler said he’s ahead of schedule and has to be reined in by the training staff some days.

“I’m well ahead of schedule,” said Hamler. “Some days they’ve got to ramp me down a little bit and tell me to calm down so it doesn’t flare up so I’m playing it smart. Just progressing every day.”

In two seasons, the Penn State product has 35 catches for 455 yards and 3 touchdowns. Hopefully he’s able to hit the field and stay healthy for 2022 and beyond.
