Penn State linebacker Manny Bowen will miss the regular season finale for Penn State according to head coach James Franklin. This will be the third straight game he has missed this season.

During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Franklin confirmed that Bowen will not play this Saturday against Maryland as the Nittany Lions close out the year. The PSU head coach offered little information on the situation, saying his absence was due to a “violation of team rules.”

Bowen has been one of Penn State’s top tacklers this season, racking up 51 stops and 3.5 tackles for loss in nine games. He’s also been credited with four quarterback hurries this year.

The Nittany Lions have been fine defensively without Bowen in the lineup, and against a Maryland team that has struggled to move the football, his absence likely won’t be devastating. Still, it’s significant that one of the team’s top defenders missed the home and regular season finales this season.

Penn State-Maryland is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start and the game will air on Big Ten Network.
