Manny Diaz weighs in on evolution of Penn State defense in 2022
Manny Diaz has a lot to be proud of at Penn State this season, and a significant improvement on defense is one of them.
The defensive coordinator and linebackers coach is thrilled with the changes he’s seen from the Nittany Lions this season.
Penn State finished the regular season at 10-2, and are headed to the Rose bowl to face No. 7 Utah. Last season Penn State went 7-6 and finished fourth in the conference. The Nittany Lions got rolled 24-10 in the Outback Bowl to end a disappointing season.
Things have been looking up this season, and Diaz says that’s something that makes him really proud as a coach.
“Just watching them go from here to there has been rewarding for me this year. When I think about the defense during to Purdue to the Michigan State game, we’re a completely different animal. Week-by-week I felt like they got a lot better. When you see the guys making individual improvements that’s the part as a coach that’s rewarding”
It’s safe to say that the Penn State defense improved a lot under Diaz in his first season at the helm. Diaz and the Nittany Lions take on Utah in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 2 at 5 p.m. EST on ESPN.
