'More than you've heard': James Franklin discusses Penn State's NIL needs to remain competitive in B1G
The introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness has changed the outlook for college athletics across the country. It is something James Franklin addressed directly during a meeting with the media on Wednesday.
Asked about the NIL needs of the Nittany Lions in order to remain competitive, Franklin said the number for Penn State is “More than the numbers you’ve heard.”
He went on to passionately explain that Penn State is competing against programs that have a certain number, so it makes sense that the number would be the same for the Nittany Lions.
“If School X has a number,” Franklin said, “And we’re supposed to be competing with School X, why would our number be different?”
Lots of passion from James Franklin on this NIL situation.
Asked why Penn State’s number would be any different than the programs they’re competing with (ie. Ohio State, although the never said a name) pic.twitter.com/zLkkMlAFiO

Though he never referenced any teams or programs by name, Ohio State certainly leaps to mind. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day reportedly told a group of Columbus business owners that Ohio State likely needs around $13 million in order to keep the roster intact.
