NFL insider says Penn State's Jayson Oweh is a 'Hot name' among scouts
Penn State pass rusher Jayson Oweh has been one of biggest risers up draft boards in the entire country this offseason.
It appears that trend will continue as the NFL draft approaches later this month. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Oweh is “hot name” amongst NFL scouts with less than two weeks to go before the start of the draft.
Rapoport indicated that scouts are comparing him to Vikings pass rusher Danielle Hunter, who had a similar profile coming out of LSU. Hunter is now a two-time Pro Bowler.
Penn St edge Jayson Oweh is a hot name among scouts now, which led to this interesting NFL comparison: #Vikings edge Danielle Hunter. Why?
— Both 6-foot-5, 250 or so.
— Both limited production their last year in college (1.5 sacks for Hunter, 0 for Oweh)
— Both ⬆️ projections— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 16, 2021
Here’s an excerpt from Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft, which has Oweh going No. 31 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“It has to be offensive tackle or edge rusher for the Chiefs here, right? The Super Bowl loss showed off some major weaknesses, even if this roster is still one of the league’s best. Oweh is an interesting case because his coaches raved about his athletic traits, and he just ran a 4.36 40-yard dash at 257 pounds. That’s unbelievable. Sacks aren’t everything, but he didn’t have any last season, and Oweh could be the first FBS defensive lineman since Dominique Easley (2014) to be selected in the first two rounds after not recording a sack in his final collegiate season, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Scouts rave about his upside, but I still would have liked more production.”
The NFL draft is April 29-May 1.
