Penn State capped the month of July in impressive fashion. An already-loaded 2022 recruiting class received two more pledges on Saturday afternoon.

First, it was 3-star safety Kevin Winston who joined Penn State’s 2022 class. Then, later in the afternoon, the Nittany Lions secured a verbal pledge from 4-star linebacker Abdul Carter, a native of Glenside, Pennsylvania. He became the 24th player of the cycle to commit to James Franklin and Co.

Carter made his announcement with a post on Twitter.

Carter is listed at 6-foot-4, 235 pounds and is ranked as the No. 36 linebacker in the class, per 247Sports Composite. He’s also ranked as the No. 10 prospect out of Pennsylvania and the No. 314 recruit overall, earning him a 4-star rating.

A dozen programs showed interest in the highly-skilled linebacker. He commits to Penn State over offers  from South Carolina, Kentucky, Maryland, LSU, Michigan, Pitt, Ole Miss, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee and USC.

Penn State continues to close the gap on Ohio State in the recruiting rankings, but it’s still behind. The Nittany Lions currently own the No. 2 class in the nation and have commitments from 14 players with a 4-star rating.
