Penn State and Pitt may face each other for the final time in several years this Saturday, but the rivalry is alive and well.

During his final time speaking to the media before facing Penn State, Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi addressed the possibility of the Panthers stealing Penn State’s signals. Actually, he made it clear it wasn’t possible despite the fact Pitt now has former Penn State safety John Petrischen on its roster.

“Let me just talk about this for one second, so I can get this off my chest. First of all, John (Petrischen) is 21 years old. I haven’t said about — they have Eric Thatcher at their place, right? He sat in the defensive meeting rooms (at Pitt) for two years. Did you guys know that? So Eric, I’m sure he’s a ball coach this week trying to fill them in on what we do, so, I think a 35-year-old over a 21-year-old who’s been playing one position, I don’t think he’s worried about offensive or defensive signals,” Narduzzi said according to Pittsburgh Rivals.

The Pitt coach continued, arguing that even if Petrischen could share something useful with Pitt, it’s impossible to steal an offensive signal because there isn’t enough time to relay that signal to the defense.

This was all in response to Penn State coach James Franklin saying Tuesday that the Nittany Lions changed their signals this offseason because Petrischen transferred to Pitt.

“When that happened (his transfer), we knew that we were going to have to make some changes at that point, and we did,” Franklin said Tuesday according to Centre Daily Times. “We didn’t wait until this week to do it. We did it right when that was announced.”

Sounds like both of these coaches are fired up to get this rivalry matchup started.
