Penn State has added a big-time transfer for the defensive line, especially after Shaka Toney and Jayson Oweh declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Nittany Lions have added Derrick Tangelo from Duke as he announced his commitment to them Tuesday afternoon through his personal Twitter account:

Tangelo played four seasons at Duke before announcing his transfer and put up some solid numbers. He had 113 total tackles (59 solo) for the Blue Devils and 4.5 sacks. He also had five forced fumbles throughout those four years.

His best individual season came in 2018 when he had 46 total tackles (20 solo) with two forced fumbles. For this most recent season, he finished with 38 total tackles (24 solo) with two sacks and three forced fumbles.

Tangelo will have an opportunity to set career highs in all categories for his last collegiate season with Penn State. If he does that, the NFL could be calling his name.

Considering the offseason departures of Toney and Oweh, along with Antonio Shelton seeking a transfer, the Nittany Lions were very thin along the defensive front. Adding a veteran presence with a solid track record in Tangelo is a big boost for 2021.
