Penn State adds first running back commit of 2023 cycle with 4-star in-state prospect

4-star Scranton Prep running back London Montgomery has committed to James Franklin and Penn State.

Montgomery, the No. 27 running back in the nation and the No. 7 overall prospect from the state of Pennsylvania, picked the Nittany Lions over Virginia Tech and Boston College Monday.

“I chose Penn State because I felt at home,” Montgomery said via Lions247. “I built relationships with the coaches, a really good bond with them, and I felt like Penn State was a place I could succeed in life, not just athletically but academically. I just felt at home.”

Montgomery, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound back originally from Scranton rushed for 36 touchdowns in 10 games his junior year. he also accumulated 2,356 yards in 194 carries.

He is Penn State’s lone running back commitment for the 2023 class. Penn State is currently ranked as the No. 6 class in the nation.
