Penn State alumni in the beer business want folks in Pennsylvania to get a taste of Buckeye Tears. Twelve breweries with PSU ties have come together on the new beverage.

The Cold IPA is 4.09% alcohol and features an illustration of Brutus, Ohio State’s mascot, crying on the label. The beer is set to be released on tap and in cans in early October, ahead of the showdown between Penn State and OSU on Oct. 21.

“The network of Penn State alumni is vast and proud,” reads an announcement on Breweries in PA. “We wanted a way to highlight all they have gone on to do since graduating from the university and starting small businesses across PA. Obviously no harm is meant, we just think ‘Buckeye Tears’ is the perfect name for a beer that will honor Penn State heading to the National Championship in 2023! No one in Ohio wants to see that.”

Ohio State fans will be quick to point out that the Buckeyes have dominated the Penn State series in recent years. OSU is 23-14 all-time against the Nittany Lions and is on a 6-game winning streak heading into the 2023 clash.

Fans can find out more about where to purchase the beer and merchandise on the Breweries in PA website.
