UConn head coach Randy Edsall announced he will retire at the end of the 2021 regular season, which means the Huskies will be looking for a replacement in the coming months.

According to college football insider Bruce Feldman, Penn State running backs coach JaJuan Seider could be a candidate. Feldman points out that Seider has ties to the region and has been in the mix for FBS head coaching jobs before.

Here’s Feldman’s analysis:

Penn State RBs/run game coordinator also has some Northeast ties from his time at West Virginia University and now in Happy Valley. The 44-year-old former standout quarterback from FAMU was in the mix for a couple of FBS head coaching jobs in the past year and will be again, as he’s developed one of the best position rooms in FBS. Seider’s roots in Florida and as a big recruiting force there would make him a big asset at UConn.

Seider is originally from Florida but has coached and played all along the east coast.

If Seider does end up taking over for Edsall, he would be inheriting an exceptionally tough job. Edsall’s Huskies lost to Holy Cross on Saturday and have struggled to build momentum in recent years. UConn has won three games since the start of the 2018 season.

Seider has been one of Penn State’s best assistant coaches since joining the Nittany Lions before the 2018 season.
