Penn State basketball is canceling a non-conference game for the week of Christmas, the Nittany Lions announced on Friday.

According to Penn State’s release, the cancellation is due to rising COVID-19 cases within the Nittany Lions program. Those cases have forced the cancellation of the game against Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Dec. 22. It will not be rescheduled.

From the release:

“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and the broader community are of the utmost importance. Therefore, as part of the protocols established by the Big Ten Conference and Penn State Athletics medical staff, and in consultation with University, local and national officials and guidelines, individuals with a positive test have been put into isolation. In addition to isolation, contact tracing procedures have been implemented, which includes testing for those individuals who might have been exposed.”

To this point, Penn State has canceled games against VCU and Quinnipiac. The Nittany Lions are 5-5 with the next regularly scheduled game set for Dec. 29 vs. Delaware State.
