Penn State basketball will be heading off to Philadelphia and playing at the esteemed The Palestra, per Penn State Athletics.

The B1G has released the full 20-game men’s basketball schedules, including Penn State playing a home game at The Palestra.

A return for the Nittany Lions to the historic Palestra will be quite a show, as they host Purdue on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023.

In 2017, the Nittany Lions defeated Michigan State and in 2020 they defeated Iowa, all while at The Palestra.

The Palestra has been a memorable location for a multitude of reasons and one of them being its rich history, aptly named the “Cathedral of College Basketball.”

Penn State’s head coach Micah Shrewsberry was just as ecstatic as one could be for the opportunity to play in one of college basketball’s greatest courts. Shrewsberry dove into what playing at The Palestra means for the Penn State fan base and team:

“We’re thrilled to return to The Palestra this season,” said head coach Micah Shrewsberry via release. “We have several players from the Philadelphia area and this is a great chance for them to play in a historic basketball venue in front of their family and friends. This game also gives us the opportunity to connect with the large and powerful Penn State alumni base in Philadelphia and we can’t wait for the great home-court atmosphere at The Palestra.”

The Nittany Lions basketball squad will be looking forward to taking on Purdue next January in a Big Ten showdown at The Palestra.
