Penn State betting favorite to land Notre Dame QB Brandon Wimbush
With Trace McSorley’s eligibility up, Penn State will be undergoing a change at quarterback for the 2019 season. James Franklin might be looking outside the program to add some experience and stability to the position.
According to BetDSI, Penn State is the favorite to land former Notre Dame starter Brandon Wimbush, who lost his spot to Ian Book early in the 2018 season. The odds are at +150 for Wimbush to head to Happy Valley.
Rutgers (+300) and Maryland (+800) were also on the list.
Penn State still has Tommy Stevens and Sean Clifford as options to replace McSorley next fall, but neither brings the same experience as Wimbush. Conversely, the former Fighting Irish gunslinger would be brand new to Franklin’s system.
Wimbush played in six games for the Irish this season, starting in the first three. He threw for 719 yards and four touchdowns while completing passes at a 53 percent clip. He also rushed for 256 yards and a touchdown.
Wimbush started in 12 of Notre Dame’s 13 games in 2017, throwing for 1,850 yards and 16 touchdowns. He also carved up defenses with his feet, rushing for 803 yards and 14 scores. He was 12-3 as the starting quarterback for the Irish.
Penn State finished the 2019 campaign 9-4.
