Penn State Associate HC discusses freshmen, highlights standouts
Several freshmen for Penn State are showcasing their potential early in this Fall Training Camp as they are catching the eyes of cornerbacks coach Terry Smith. When asked which freshman stands out the most, he pointed out several players.
Cam Miller is having a solid and productive camp as he is currently the third-string cornerback, looking to climb higher. Freshman Zane Durant is another first-year climbing the depth chart in just a short amount of time.
Asked Terry Smith if any freshmen are flashing. “No. 11 (Abdul Carter), he’s pretty good. Cam Miller is having a really good camp. Zane Durant has been really good up front. On the offensive side, the young RBs are really good. They’ve been consistent. They’ve made plays.”

While these freshmen look to make a name for themselves early, other older players like senior Johnny Dixon and redshirt freshman Zakee Wheatley are making plays with the second-team defense. These players are providing depth so far for Penn State.
Your Takeaway King leader thus far? Zakee Wheatley and Johnny Dixon are both at the top, per Terry Smith.
Joey Porter Jr. added that his Pick-6 came off “a nice little play on curl. Just picked it off.”
