Penn State co-DC Anthony Poindexter to remain following Jim Knowles hire, per report
Penn State made a splash hire, poaching Jim Knowles from Ohio State.
With Knowles coming in, there was interest around what that would mean for Anthony Poindexter, who held the co-defensive coordinator title on James Franklin’s staff. Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports shared Sunday that Poindexter is expected to remain in State College.

Dellenger details that Poindexter had interest from other Power conference programs. The co-DC is reportedly excited about Knowles coming to Happy Valley, and spoke to the Ohio State assistant during PSU’s courting. Dellenger reports that Poindexter is set to sign a new multi-year contract with a raise.
“We could really get Jim?” Poindexter told Franklin, per Dellenger.
Poindexter, who coaches safeties, joined the Penn State staff in 2021. He came over from Purdue, where he was also co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach from 2017-20.
Knowles succeeds Tom Allen, the former Indiana head coach who left Penn State to become the defensive coordinator at Clemson.
