Penn State’s rushing attack was a weakness all season long and the result was a really ugly statistic to close the 2021 season.

In 12 games, the Nittany Lions failed to produce a single 100-yard rusher in any contest. Considering the bevy of ball carriers the team had this fall — John Lovett, Keyvone Lee, Noah Cain, Caziah Holmes and Devyn Ford — it seemed like the ground game would be a strength.

That wasn’t the case.

It’s a strange stat to have coming from a school that produced the likes of Curt Warner, Ki-Jana Carter, and Saquon Barkley but it’s been that kind of season for the Nittnay Lions.

Head coach James Franklin, who just extended his contract last week, knows this is something he’ll need to fix.

“It’s important (to fix that),” Franklin said after the game. “I want to be able to run the football.”

In order to win championships in the future, the Nittany Lions will have to straighten out their running game or they will find themselves in this position next year.
