Penn State great Trace McSorley joins James Franklin's coaching staff
Penn State was led by quarterback Trace McSorley not too long ago, and now the Nittany Lions are hiring McSorley to be an “offensive analyst” or an assistant quarterbacks coach as the program’s social media wrote on Tuesday.
McSorley played at Penn State from 2014-18 and was a letterman from 2015-18, when he set numerous school records for single-season passing yards, touchdowns and career total yards. McSorley was then drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 6th round in 2019, spending parts of 3 seasons with the Ravens before embarking on a tour of NFL teams that included the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders.
After spending part of the 2024 season with the Commanders, McSorley had enough of the NFL and is now taking his first collegiate coaching job with the program he once led.

McSorley is second all-time in Penn State football history with 9,899 yards and 77 touchdowns. McSorley also holds the Nittany Lions record for most passing yards in a single season.
One of the most beloved recent Penn State alums, McSorley is now coming “home” to State College to coach under James Franklin, who just led the Nittany Lions to the College Football Playoff semifinals in 2024.
