Penn State lineman, projected starter, announces medical retirement
A Penn State lineman announced his retirement from football on Wednesday, citing medical reasons. He broke the news on social media.
Landon Tengwall, who was projected to start at left guard for Penn State this season, has retired. Tengwall started in five games last season for the Nittany Lions. He played in three as a true freshman in 2021.
After starting in those five games last year, Tengwall suffered a season-ending injury. He left a message for Penn State:
“Penn State family, it is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my retirement from football. Unfortunately, I have sustained an injury that will not allow me to safely continue to play the game I love and that has given me so much. I want to thank my family, my friends, coach Franklin, coach Trautwein, my teammates and all the Penn State coaches and staff. Penn State will always be my home. I will always be a proud Penn State football player. WE ARE…FOREVER.”

It’s sad to see a promising player’s career end so abruptly. Tengwall was supposed to be a big part of the offensive line this season in Happy Valley.
Penn State opens the year against West Virginia on Saturday. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
