Penn State took a loss on the recruiting trail on Saturday, losing a commitment from a key wide receiver in the 2019 class.

Emery Simmons announced via Twitter that he would decommit from Penn State and instead gave his verbal pledge to North Carolina. The Tar Heels, of course, recently hired legendary coach Mack Brown to run the program.

“I’ve decided to decommit from Penn State and stay home and help UNC football return to its greatness that it once was,” Simmons wrote on Twitter.

Simmons had offers from Penn State, Indiana, North Carolina and Duke. He’s ranked as the No. 21 wide receiver in the 2019 recruiting class.

Penn State now drops to 16 commitments in the 2019 class. The Nittany Lions ranked 14th nationally and No. 3 in the B1G.
