Penn State extends HC offer to current A-10 program head coach, per report
Penn State extended an offer to VCU head coach Mike Rhoades to become their next head coach following Notre Dame’s hiring of Micah Shrewsberry last week. This is according to a report from CBS’ Jon Rothstein.
If true, this would be an excellent hire for the Nittany Lions, who just had their first sniff of success this past decade. Shrewsberry had Penn State basketball at a place it can be excited about, and Rhoades certainly has a history of winning.
The VCU head man has led the Rams to the NCAA Tournament in 3 of the past 6 years in a league that usually sends 1 or 2 teams to the NCAA Tournament each year. He had zero losing seasons in Richmond.
Sources: Penn State has offered its head coaching vacancy to VCU’s Mike Rhoades, with an annual salary in excess of $3 million dollars.

Penn State had its most successful season in recent history this past year. The Nittany Lions advanced all the way to the B1G Tournament Championship and put up a good fight against Texas in the Round of 32.
The last time Penn State went to the tournament was in 2011. The 2023 Nittany Lions are the best team Happy Valley has seen since a 2001 trip to the Sweet 16.
