Penn State OC Andy Kotelnicki expected to interview for prominent coaching vacancy
Penn State offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki has been just what the doctor ordered for the Nittany Lions. However, his lone season in Happy Valley reportedly has the assistant in the mix for a head coaching opening.
According to Mike Asti with WV Sports Now, Kotelnicki is expected to interview for the head coaching opening at West Virginia. The program moved on from Neal Brown on Sunday after a 6-6 season with the Mountaineers.
Kotelnicki has spent time across the Midwest during his coaching career and has been an assistant on the rise since his work under current Kansas head coach Lance Leipold. However, losing Kotelnicki after just one season would be a massive setback for the Nittany Lions.

At the conclusion of the regular season, Penn State is 30th in the country at 33.3 points per game offensively. However, Kotelnicki’s offense helped unlock Drew Allar’s potential while increasing the quarterback’s completion percentage by nearly 12 points from 2023 to 2024.
The variety of Kotelnicki’s offense is also a sight to behold. He has gotten the most out of tight end Tyler Warren while also utilizing Nicholas Singleton’s ability as a receiver and helping guide Penn State into the Big Ten Championship Game.
James Franklin has enjoyed a lot of success with Kotelnicki on his staff this season, but Franklin has also become accustomed to his key assistants leaving the program for head coaching jobs. Former DC Manny Diaz most recently left after the 2023 season to take the Duke job, but Franklin has also lost Brent Pry and Ricky Rahne as key assistants who recently left for head coaching jobs.
Will Kotelnicki join that group of former Franklin assistants to take a head coaching job?
