Penn State offensive coordinator addresses criticism about red zone playcalling
At 1-5, Penn State has had a lot of problems this year on the football field and one of them has been their play in the red zone.
They just haven’t been finishing drives and that led to offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca to speak on it, especially the fades in the red zone.
Here’s what he had to say about those fade plays:
OC Kirk Ciarrocca meeting with the media this morning. On the fades in the red zone:
"It's something that we've done well in training camp and have done well in practice"— Audrey Snyder (@audsnyder4) December 3, 2020
The fact that it hasn’t transferred over to gameplay six games into the season is definitely something that Ciarrocca didn’t expect.
He also sounded pretty upset when discussing their red-zone woes as a whole today, too:
"Listen, I'm not happy with the results. Believe me. But I also know it's a process building an offense," Kirk Ciarrocca said. "Guys are improving at a rapid pace, maybe not as fast as we want it."
Points to young WRs, TEs, RBs as key pieces to the future.— Audrey Snyder (@audsnyder4) December 3, 2020
This season is basically a wash at this point anyway since they’re 1-5 but if they can improve over these next couple of games, that could prove Penn State with some potential momentum going into next season.
Penn State’s next game will be this Saturday against Rutgers at Noon ET.
