Penn State made things official with Tom Allen on Tuesday as the program’s newest defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

It was reported that James Franklin would be hiring Allen as former DC Manny Diaz’s replacement on Sunday. Allen was the 2020 AFCA National Coach of the Year after leading the Hoosiers to a 6-2 record. Indiana decided to part ways with Allen this season after a 3-9 finish.

Diaz left to become the head coach at Duke, taking over for Mike Elko, who is now back with Texas A&M as its next head coach after 4 seasons as DC from 2018-2021.

Here’s what Allen had to say about the chance to coach with Franklin, per a team press release:

“I am thrilled for this opportunity with Penn State Football and want to thank Coach Franklin and Dr. Kraft for believing in me,” Allen said through the release. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Franklin and having been across the sidelines from him, I’ve seen what he is building here. To be trusted to join this storied program has me fired up, and I can’t wait to get to work alongside this coaching staff, these student-athletes and to immerse myself in the Happy Valley community.”

Penn State will be playing Ole Miss for the 1st time in program history as the Peach Bowl approaches. The game will be played on Dec. 30.
