Penn State got a big win before even taking the field in Week 4.

Matthias “Mega” Barnwell, a 4-star tight end out of Virginia, announced his commitment to the Nittany Lions Saturday morning. He’s the third commit for James Franklin’s 2022 recruiting class, which ranks 7th in the country, according to 247sports.

Barnwell, 247sports’ 16th-ranked TE prospect in the country, received quite a bit of interest on the recruiting trail and held offers from 5 other B1G programs, including Ohio State, Maryland and Rutgers. He took 3 unofficial visits to PSU, including one to last week’s White Out victory over Auburn. He’s also in attendance for Saturday’s game against Villanova.

Nittany Lions coach James Franklin can’t comment on Barnwell’s commitment until he signs his letter of intent, but indirectly acknowledged it on his own Twitter.

Penn State is currently taking on Villanova on the B1G Network.
