Penn State has lost some depth at running back.

During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, head coach James Franklin provided an injury update on backup running back Mark Allen, who did not make the trip to Illinois last week. Unfortunately for the fifth-year senior, his season is over.

Franklin said that Allen will be out for the remainder of the year.

Allen played in the first three games of the season for Penn State, rushing for 99 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. He was serving as the Lions’ backup running back behind Miles Sanders.

In four years in Happy Valley, Allen has racked up 353 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 82 receiving yards in his career.

With Allen out for the year, freshman Ricky Slade slips into the No. 2 spot for the Nittany Lions. He’s played in all four games, totaling 147 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. He was explosive in Friday’s game against Illinois, registering 94 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 10 carries.

Penn State currently owns the B1G’s most prolific rushing attack, averaging 275 yards per game and 20 touchdowns on the ground.
