Penn State is set to hire Stan Drayton as its next running backs coach, according to a report.

That’s according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who notes that Drayton was formerly the head coach at Temple. Drayton spent 3 seasons with the Owls but parted ways with the program after the 2024 season.

Thamel also issued a clarification that Drayton’s deal with the Nittany Lions is for 1 year and not a multi-year contract as he initially reported:

Prior to serving as Temple’s head coach, Drayton was the running backs coach and running game coordinator at Texas from 2017-21. Earlier in his career, Drayton was the RB coach at programs like Ohio State, Tennessee and Florida, amongst others. He’s also been a running backs coach at the NFL level with the Chicago Bears (2015-16).

Drayton is an Ohio native but he has roots in Pennsylvania. He played football at Division III Allegheny College and even led the program to a national title during his playing career.

This hire from Penn State comes after the Nittany Lions courted Oklahoma running backs coach DeMarco Murray, but the former Sooner ultimately decided to stay in Norman. Drayton replaces Ja’Juan Seider, who left for Notre Dame earlier this offseason.
