Penn State this week announced that Athletics Director Sandy Barbour would step down this summer and retire after she’s led the department since 2014.

Now a “prominent target” has emerged in someone who has Big Ten experience. Brett McMurphy of Action Network reported that Northern Illinois’ Sean Frazier is that type of candidate. Frazier previously worked as a deputy AD at Wisconsin, and has been at NIU since 2013.

Frazier played football at Alabama, and was at Wisconsin from 2007-2013, where he spent 6 years in senior leadership roles and was promoted to deputy director of athletics in 2011. Frazier’s duties grew to include managing all day-to-day internal and external operations for Badger Athletics and serving as UW’s Deputy AD and Chief of Staff to Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez, according to his NIU bio.

Frazier also worked at Merrimack College, Clarkson University, Manhattanville College from (1999-2007) after he started his career at Maine as an assistant football coach in 1995 and was named assistant to the athletic director in 1996 and became an assistant athletic director in 1998.
