Drew Allar and the Penn State offense were shut out in the first quarter against West Virginia in the season opener. It led to an ominous feeling after some miscues and off-target throws by Allar that conjured up memories of the 2023 performance.

Fortunately, the second quarter opened in a very different fashion. Allar was able to find Harrison Wallace III on a big play over the middle that allowed Wallace to roll 50 yards for the score without being touched.

The throw by Allar was also a thing of beauty. He hit Wallace in stride as the receiver was coming out of his break, perfectly fitting the throw where Wallace needed it to catch and run into the open field.

It goes down as Penn State’s first major play of the season and is a good sign of things to come under OC Andy Kotelnicki. Last season, Penn State managed just 5 pass plays of 50+ yards the entire season.

So far, Allar is 3-for-4 passing for 82 yards with the touchdown. All 3 completions have gone to Wallace so far.
