Penn State 4-star recruit Lonnie White Jr. could be in for a big pay day via the Major League Baseball draft.

White, who was Penn State’s second-highest ranked recruit for the class of 2021, is a top baseball prospect in this year’s draft.

ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel has White mocked to the Pittsburgh Pirates at No. 37 overall in his latest mock draft.

That would make White the first pick of the second round, which would come with a very lucrative signing bonus if he ultimately chooses baseball. That pick comes with an expected value of more than $1.9 million.

However, given White’s leverage of being able to pursue a football career, he could negotiate for a figure above that number.

White would be a tremendous loss for Penn State football. He’s ranked as the No. 127 overall player in the country for the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 27 overall receiver, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

The first round of the MLB Draft is on Sunday night. Rounds 2-10 will take place on Monday and Rounds 11-20 will be on Tuesday.
