Penn State unveils uniform combination for CFP showdown vs. SMU
Penn State is preparing to take on SMU in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The Nittany Lions are hosting the game as the No. 6 seed taking on the No. 11 seed.
Ahead of the Saturday matchup, the Nittany Lions revealed the uniforms that will be worn by the team. For the team’s first-ever CFP game, Penn State will wear the Generations of Greatness uniforms.
These uniforms incorporate a modern look while also giving a nod to the past. The helmets are white with numbers while the jerseys are navy with a white stripe on the sleeves. Jersey numbers are in a block font, while the pants are white with blue stripes on the side. The facemasks are grey and the cleats are white.

This alternate look is usually reserved for homecoming games, but Saturday’s game is a special occasion in its own right. As mentioned above, this will be the Nittany Lions’ 1st playoff game, but a win would also be the 100th victory of James Franklin’s tenure.
These uniforms were previously worn against Illinois in 2024 and were first introduced in 2017.
The Nittany Lions and Mustangs have met just twice before in history. The first meeting came in the 1948 Cotton Bowl in which the teams ended in a tie. Then, the teams met again in 1978 when Penn State escaped with a 26-21 victory.
On Saturday, the teams will kick off from Beaver Stadium at Noon ET. The winner will face Boise State in the quarterfinals.
