Penn State had its fair share of struggles at the wide receiver position this season, and at least one player is reportedly looking at the transfer portal.

According to Pete Nakos with On3 Sports, Dante Cephas is expected to enter the transfer portal after just one season with the Nittany Lions. A veteran performer from Kent State, Cephas appeared in 12 games this season.

Expectations were high for Cephas entering the 2023 season. He arrived in Happy Valley after recording over 1,900 receiving yards across the 2021-22 seasons but never quite carved out a major role with the offense.

Cephas’ best game came at Maryland when he delivered 6 catches for 53 yards and 2 touchdowns. However, his only other game with more than 2 catches came with 3 catches for 36 yards against Michigan State.

Keandre Lambert-Smith led the Nittany Lions in receiving this year, but a pair of tight ends in Tyler Warren and Theo Johnson were the next leading receivers for the program. Nicholas Singleton was the only other play with more than 300 receiving yards.

Regardless of Cephas’ final decision, Penn State already needed to address the WR position entering 2024. How the team responds moving forward will be crucial.
