Penn State’s basketball program received some big news on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior guard Myles Dread has announced he’ll be returning to State College for his additional year of eligibility. Because of the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver, Dread can suit up for the Nittany Lions for one last year.

Dread announced his decision with a statement on Twitter on Tuesday. It is a huge boost for Penn State, which will lose key contributors John Harrar (eligibility) and Sam Sessoms (transfer).

“These last four years have been nothing but everything a kid from Detroit, Michigan could ever ask for. To the fans, the supporters, Legion of Blue, and the staff, I appreciate that through all the ups and downs your trust and faith in Penn State Basketball has never wavered,” Dread wrote.

“With that being said, I will be returning to Penn State to utilize my extra year of eligibility. I look forward to leading this team and giving everything I have as we set out to accomplish our goals.”

Dread played in 31 games for the Nittany Lions last season. He finished the year averaged 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest while shooting 40.5% from the floor.

Dread had a great performance in Penn State’s B1G Tournament upset win over Ohio State, scoring 12 points, grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists in the 71-68 victory.

The return of Dread provides head coach Micah Shrewsberry with talent and experience at the guard position heading into the 2022-23 season. The Nittany Lions ended last year with a 14-17 record.
