Star running back Saquon Barkley has been one of the main attractions in college football through the offseason. He’s been featured on ESPN’s Sports Science, he’s spoken to radio and television hosts and he’s earned Heisman Trophy attention and preseason All-American honors.

Now, the Penn State ball-carrier is featured in ESPN the Magazine.

Barkley is featured in the magazine’s story “79 Yards Later,” which describes the running back’s rise to fame in the Rose Bowl and whether he’ll be able to sustain his success in the future. The story was written by Hallie Grossman.

An excerpt from Grossman’s feature on Barkley:

At the combine in March, heading into a draft rich with running back talent — Leonard Fournette, Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, for starters — scouts whispered Barkley’s name as a top-five pick in 2018. “I’m trying to think who I could compare him to,” an NFL scout says. “Like Barry Sanders.”

Barkley is regarded as one of the top running backs – and top college football talents in general – returning to the field in 2017. He rushed for 1,496 yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging 5.5 yards per carry last season.

In a high-powered Penn State offense, many believe those totals could be even higher this fall.
