Rece Davis knows the specific take he dropped on Monday might be a bit “blasphemous.” That doesn’t change his outlook for Week 8 and a massive showdown between Penn State and Ohio State.

Both B1G East programs are currently undefeated heading into Week 7. While it’s unwise to assume a win at any point in the season, both programs are expected to cruise into Week 8 without a blemish.

As for Penn State, Davis broke down James Franklin’s program on “The Paul Finebaum Show” and admitted the Nittany Lions have some real difference-makers on defense. Penn State also maintains a balanced offense with Drew Allar looking as advertised so far.

“I think they’re really good also. I think they’ve got dynamic difference-makers on defense. They can run the ball,” said Davis. “Their quarterback has been everything that’s been advertised, he continues to improve.”

Davis also admitted the Nittany Lions haven’t been tested to this point in the season, but the season-opening win against West Virginia continues to look better and better. It’s still early, but Davis went so far as to favor Penn State while noting the road environment Columbus presents.

“That West Virginia victory looks pretty good right now because that’s the only game West Virginia has lost up to this point. They haven’t been challenged yet and they won’t be Saturday. But they will be a week from Saturday when they go to Ohio State. And blasphemous as it may seem, right now I would favor Penn State slightly in that game,” Davis explained. “It’ll be a tough environment. They haven’t fared well over there against them, but I think Penn State’s got a real opportunity in what ought to be a terrific game in Columbus in a week or so.”

While the head-to-head series has produced some thrilling matchups, Ohio State has managed to win 6 straight. Penn State’s last win came in 2016 while upsetting No. 2 Ohio State. The Buckeyes are 10-2 in the series since 2011.
