Report: Ex-Penn State assistant leaving NFL gig for role at Duke
A former assistant of James Franklin’s is reportedly returning to the collegiate ranks after a run in the NFL.
According to Kim Jones with the NFL Network, Sean Spencer is leaving the New York Giants to become the co-DC at Duke with new head coach Mike Elko. Spencer was the defensive line coach for the Giants under Joe Judge.

Spencer’s most recent college experience came at Penn State. He served as the DL coach for the Nittany Lions from 2014-19 and added the role of associate head coach starting in 2018. Spencer was also a part of James Franklin’s Vanderbilt staff as DL coach of the commodore from 2011-13.
