Some shocking news trickled out of State College on Tuesday, as one of Penn State’s rising stars at wide receiver has reportedly decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Yahoo’s Pete Thamel reported that former five-star wide receiver and redshirt freshman receiver Justin Shorter has entered the NCAA transfer portal. The report comes just a few days after Shorter caught three passes for 28 yards in Penn State’s 28-17 loss to Ohio State.

Shorter has played in 10 of Penn State’s 11 games this season, making 12 catches for 137 yards. Last season, the star receiver played in four games and maintained his redshirt status. He had three receptions for 20 yards.

As a high school prospect, Shorter was ranked as the No. 8 overall player in the 2018 recruiting class. He was the top-ranked wide receiver and the best player out of New Jersey, as well.

With the rules of the transfer portal, Shorter can choose to return to Penn State, if that’s in his best interest. During the offseason, the Nittany Lions saw more than a dozen players enter their name into the database.

Penn State closes out the season on Saturday against Rutgers, and will hit the 10-win mark with a victory.
