It sounds like Penn State knows who it will be playing when it begins a new era of the basketball program.

College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported on Wednesday that Micah Shrewsberry’s first game as head coach will come against Youngstown. The game is expected to be set for Wednesday, Nov. 10.

The first game will be a home game for the Nittany Lions and will played at the Bryce-Jordan Center in State College.

The announcement about Penn State’s season opener comes shortly after it was reveal who the Nittany Lions will play in the Emerald Coast Classic the weekend of Thanksgiving.

Penn State will play a first-round game against St. Francis Brooklyn in State College before traveling down to Niceville, Florida to play LSU. The Lions will then either play Oregon State or Wake Forest in the championship round.

Penn State hired Shrewsberry to be the head coach following the 2020-21 season. Shrewsberry had previously been an assistant coach on Matt Painter’s staff at Purdue.
