Just a few days after Penn State’s season came to an end in the Outback Bowl it’s being reported that a staffer is on the move.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported on Monday morning that Michael Hazel, Penn State’s senior director of football operations, is leaving to join Brent Pry’s staff at Virginia Tech. He is expected to be the chief of staff with the Hokies.

Hazel has been with Franklin since the Vanderbilt days. It’s a significant blow to the Nittany Lions’ administrative staff.

Pry took the job at Virginia Tech following the 2021 regular season, replacing Justin Fuente. It will be his first time as a head coach after having done an excellent job with the Penn State defense.

Penn State closed out the 2021 season with a 7-6 record. The Nittany Lions dropped the Outback Bowl to Arkansas on New Year’s Day.
